Custom Work

So you’d like to commission some art? Hooray! I’ll need about 4 of the best, sharpest photos of an animal or landscape. (More is even better if you have them.) It is very important that I understand your expectations about the the art, so any constraints about design, media, details, and timing need to be expressed before I begin.

If you would like to commission a wild animal or landscape, I have uploaded my best shots here on Flickr. Let me know what size and which reference photo you would like me to paint from at lwolfartist@gmail.com.

Things to keep in mind when photographing your pet for art reference shots:

• I recommend taking your shots outside on an overcast day or beside a window.

• Animal eye contact is a big plus. It really helps me to see that individual’s unique personality.

• Sometimes it helps to get hunkered down to the pet's height instead of aiming down at them.

• Make sure your pet or subject isn’t lit from behind- that takes away a lot of the important details.

• iPhone photos are just fine. You don’t need to use a fancy camera.

• Send me the full size photos at lwolfartist@gmail.com.

• In the email, specify the media and size you would like, and I will estimate turnaround time.

• I accept custom work January through October. If you intend to give the painting as a holiday gift, please consider reaching me in the summer while I'm not teaching full time.

These are my rates for larger commissions, which can be delivered in person if you are able to meet me within a 30 minute drive of Ellicott City, MD. Sorry, I can't ship these sizes.

Custom Magnet: $30

My magnets are hand-painted in acrylic on 1.5 inch wooden discs with a powerful neodymium magnet attached on the reverse.

Custom Digital Art: $30/hour

These pieces typically take me 9-14 hours depending on detail. I am willing to make up to two edits at the same hourly rate. The app I use is called Procreate, which is not vector-based but does offer high-resolution images suitable for printing on various surfaces and products.
